Travel Theme: Cities

Once again I’m using Where’s My Backpack’s travel themes. It’s a fun excuse to re-edit photos from past trips.

This theme is particularly interesting for me because since I was a little girl  always dreamed of living in a big city.  I wanted to live somewhere where everyone is a stranger, with giant buildings shading my walk to the subway and going somewhere different every weekend.

Growing up in Albuquerque the joke is, “we aren’t the land of enchantment but the land of entrapment.” While everyone claims to “hate” New Mexico because everyone knows each other, it’s ghetto, it’s poor and it’s stagnant everyone somehow comes back to our small, quaint city of green chile and indie films. I’ve always dreamed of getting out of here and living amongst skyscrapers.

So here are some of the cities I’ve been to that have motivated me to strive for an escape from the land of entrapment.

San Francisco, CA

I went to San Francisco to reunite with some of the amazing people I met studying abroad in Madrid.  While I was making memories in a new city we all reminisced about another city.

San Francisco is a mad city- inhabited for the most part by perfectly insane people whose women are of a remarkable beauty.” Rudyard Kipling

Madrid, Spain

This piece of art is in Gran Via.  The neighborhood is trendy and is one of the few places you can see tattoo parlors and sex shops.  It’s one of my favorite places to stroll in Madrid, other than Retiro.

Venice, Italy

Venice is the city of water.  You have to ride in a gondola once in your life!  Venice is the place to do it!

“Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go,” Truman Capote

New York City, New York

New York City is like a urban dream!  I love visiting and I’m so blessed to have a couple friends there to show me the sights.  I love feeling like an ant amongst these giant architecture wonders.

“New York City is itself a detective story.”- Agatha Christie

As I have begun started readying myself for Spain I’m getting excited to be a small city gal living the big city life!  It’s truly one of my dreams.

  1. This is awesome! I love to travel so I enjoyed seeing which cities inspired you. I, too, love New York! I live in Seattle so there are always new faces everywhere, it’s odd to see someone you recognize. I love it and hate it at the same time. I encourage maybe to visit Seattle! I bet you would love it. Thanks for sharing this post 🙂

    1. I actually went to Western Washington for a trimester! I didn’t get to visit Seattle as much as I wanted but I have been! I love the artsy atmosphere and the street musicians. However WWU was not the school for me. I didn’t make that many friends so I left.
