Architecture in San Sebastian

What was once a small fishing town in 1175, is now one the most popular cities in Spain.  San Sebastian is not as massive as Barcelona and Madrid but not as tiny as Escorial and Toledo.  It has it’s own unique brand, being known for the best pintxos and a beautiful beach.

The buildings are very old with different types of architecture from many time periods. Most notably is the strong influence of art nouveau.  In the 19th Century, high society decided to give the city a make over and make it a cultural watering hole for the wealthy of Europe. Part of that was inserting the then trending art nouveau amongst the medieval architecture.  I hope you enjoy my little gallery of architecture in San Sebastian.

We loved San Sebastian!
